Usemaps can support multiple data layers on a single Map. However, the number of layers that can be handled efficiently may depend on available hardware resources, such as RAM and processor power. A very large number of layers in a single Map Composition may slow down the system, especially if the datasets are large.

Additionally, the number of layers on a GIS map may be limited by its purpose. When creating data visualizations, too many layers can complicate the user interface and make it harder to interpret information. It is recommended to limit the number of layers for clarity and performance.

We recommend a maximum of 20–25 layers on a single map.

In summary, there is no strict limit on the number of layers in a GIS map, but the practical number of layers depends on the hardware and the map’s purpose. It is good practice to maintain map clarity and performance by managing the number of data layers wisely.
