A geoportal is a website where public institutions (more rarely companies) present the spatial data they own, sometimes supplemented with data from other institutions, for example through WMS services. A geoportal is equipped with basic tools such as identification, measurement, and printing. Access to a geoportal is usually public, although some additional functions may be available to logged-in users. In most cases, extended permissions result from legal regulations, for example access to property transaction prices on county geoportals for real estate appraisers.
Usemaps is a system that is available only to logged-in users (usually employees and company partners). After logging in, the user has access to data and tools that have been prepared for them by the administrator. In addition to viewing data in the map window, users can do much more, such as viewing attribute tables, searching, filtering, styling, and editing data.
The purpose of Usemaps in a company is not only to enable viewing spatial data and maps, but also to support the execution of specific procedures using built-in tools.
