Editing spatial data, including:

  1. changing Attributes of existing Objects,
  2. changing the Geometry of existing Objects,
  3. adding new Objects,
  4. deleting Objects,

is one of the basic use cases of the System.
Regardless of whether your database contains investment areas, water supply networks, lighting data, or results of environmental inventories, the data editing process works the same way.
The article below contains general notes about data editing and references to more detailed articles.

In the System, Geometry (commonly called graphic data) and Attributes (commonly called descriptive data) are edited simultaneously and stored in a single database.

Before you start

  1. Only Users who have the appropriate Permissions granted by the Administrator can edit data.
  2. Editing can be performed in the part of the System available through a web browser and through the QGIS plugin. We recommend performing simple edits in the browser, while large and advanced edits should be done in QGIS. This is because it is a desktop application with many tools that make editing easier.
  3. Editing tools may vary slightly depending on the Geometry Type.
  4. The articles below refer to General Layers. Layers from Data Models may have different editing procedures. These procedures are described in the documentation of the relevant modules.

Use cases:

  1. How to add a new object to a Vector Layer: Point?
  2. How to add a new object to a Vector Layer: Line?
  3. How to add a new object to a Vector Layer: Polygon?
  4. How to delete an object?
  5. How to change the geometry (shape) of an object?
  6. How to delete a single vertex?

More descriptions of editing tools can be found in the article about the Editing Tools Panel
