6 September 2023We are constantly working with our clients to optimize processes using GIS. The latest fruit of this collaboration is a new tool that will soon be available on Usemaps: Usable Area.
This tool allows you to speed up the process of evaluating a plot (or group of plots) for the construction of a photovoltaic farm. It quickly calculates the area available for development based on restrictions (e.g., watercourses, power lines, isolated trees). Simply select the plots, indicate which data should be taken into account when calculating the area, and click “Calculate.” As shown in the GIF below.
The main benefit of using the Usable Area tool is time savings, as plot analysis can be performed in less than a minute by a person with very basic training. The process does not require the involvement of a GIS specialist who would use specialised software to calculate buffers, make cut-outs and calculate areas.
