An Object is a single element of the real world represented in Geographic Information Systems.
An Object consists of:
- Geometry, which is the spatial representation. Different types of geometry are distinguished (point, line, and polygon).
- Attribute Values, a set of values characteristic for this Object.
Groups of Objects of the same class are collected in Layers.
In the example below:
An Object (a single measurement point) consists of:
- Geometry (i.e., its location at a specific point in space)
- Attribute Values, e.g.
- ID: 1,
- fid: 4747030,
- pna: 62-260,
- simc_nazwa: Pierzyska

Examples;
- The “Hydrants” layer likely consists of Objects: individual hydrants.
- The “National Parks” layer likely consists of 23 Objects: National Parks.
