During the session, we presented the key changes, tested selected features, and explored what the new version means in practice \u2013 both for users and plugin developers. <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"690\" data-end=\"747\">Below is a summary of the key takeaways.<\/p>\n<div style=\"border-left: 4px solid #4e5ff8; padding: 16px 20px; background-color: #f5f7ff; margin: 25px 0; border-radius: 6px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold; font-size: 18px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">In brief<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin: 0; padding-left: 0; list-style: none;\">\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">\ud83d\udd35 QGIS 4.0 is a technological change (Qt6), not a visual one<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">\ud83d\udd35 the interface looks familiar, but performs more efficiently<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">\ud83d\udd35 most plugins are not yet available<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">\ud83d\udd35 it\u2019s worth testing, but not necessarily switching to production yet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"19b0otz\" data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"783\">Revolution or evolution?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"785\" data-end=\"907\">After launching QGIS 4.0, the first impression may be surprising \u2013 the interface looks almost identical to version 3.4. The same panel layout, the same icons, and a very similar menu. And that\u2019s no coincidence.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"1180\"><strong>QGIS 4.0 is primarily a technological change, not a visual one<\/strong>. The biggest change is the transition from Qt5 to Qt6 \u2013 a modernization of the foundations the application is built on. It can be compared to replacing a car engine \u2013 the appearance stays the same, but the way it works changes.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1296\" data-end=\"1318\"><strong>In practice, this means:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 10px; padding-left: 18px;\">\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">better performance in selected scenarios,<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">greater stability,<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">preparing the system for further development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1433\" data-end=\"1511\">That\u2019s why QGIS 4.0 is seen more as an evolution than a revolution.<\/p>\n<h2>What changes in everyday work?<\/h2>\n<p>Although visual changes are minimal, several features have been introduced that genuinely improve everyday work. During the webinar, we focused on selected features \u2013 below is a brief summary: <\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 Faster object identification<\/div>\n<div>double-clicking a record in the attribute table automatically:<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 8px;\">\n<li>selects the object,<\/li>\n<li>zooms the map to its location.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>This simple improvement significantly speeds up working with large datasets.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 Simpler data cleaning<\/div>\n<div>new tools allow you to remove unnecessary objects without building complex filters:<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 8px;\">\n<li>removing polygons below a specified area,<\/li>\n<li>removing lines shorter than a defined length.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>This is particularly useful when working with data after vectorization or generalization.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 Automatic removal of diacritics<\/div>\n<div>the \u201cunaccent\u201d function in the field calculator allows you to automatically remove diacritics (e.g. \u0105 \u2192 a, \u015b \u2192 s). This makes it easier to integrate with systems that do not support Polish characters. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 Duplicate detection<\/div>\n<div>the \u201cequal\u201d function allows you to check whether objects have identical geometry. This is useful when combining data from different sources and ensuring data quality. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 New tools for network analysis<\/div>\n<div>QGIS 4.0 introduces a set of tools for network analysis (e.g. road or infrastructure networks), including:<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 8px;\">\n<li>network connectivity checks,<\/li>\n<li>route calculation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>In many cases, this eliminates the need to use additional plugins.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 Noticeable performance improvements when working with data<\/div>\n<div>One of the most noticeable changes is improved data processing performance. Operations that used to take a long time during the initial data load have been significantly sped up thanks to changes in processing \u2013 with some operations now running in parallel. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: 600;\">\ud83d\udd35 Greater interface flexibility<\/div>\n<div>QGIS 4.0 offers more options to customize the working environment:<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 8px;\">\n<li>custom toolbars,<\/li>\n<li>enhanced theming options,<\/li>\n<li>a redesigned start page.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"nhorh7\" data-start=\"3443\" data-end=\"3487\">Is it worth switching to QGIS 4.0 yet?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"3489\" data-end=\"3581\">At this stage, QGIS 4.0 is not yet a fully viable replacement for version 3.4 in production environments. The main limitation lies in plugins. Many have not yet been adapted to the new version, as they require migration to Qt6. As a result, some tools users rely on daily may be unavailable. For this reason, the recommendation is simple: it is best to use both versions in parallel.    <\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3899\" data-end=\"3983\">\n<li data-section-id=\"128jwjj\" data-start=\"3899\" data-end=\"3944\">QGIS 3.4 as a stable working environment,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1lh59ag\" data-start=\"3945\" data-end=\"3983\">QGIS 4.0 as a testing environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"3985\" data-end=\"4108\">The first LTR version of QGIS 4 is expected in the coming months (according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/qgis.org\/resources\/roadmap\/\">project roadmap<\/a>), while full plugin compatibility may take significantly longer.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"2rihp0\" data-start=\"4115\" data-end=\"4155\">What does this mean for plugin developers?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"4157\" data-end=\"4225\">The transition from Qt5 to Qt6 means that some plugins need to be adapted. In simpler cases, updating configuration (e.g. version in the metadata file) is sufficient, but more complex plugins require migration from PyQt5 to PyQt6. For Windows users, a tool is available that can help speed up this process.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4487\" data-end=\"4604\">The <code data-start=\"4494\" data-end=\"4513\">pyqt5_to_pyqt6.py<\/code> script, when run from the OSGeo4W Shell, allows you to automatically adapt plugin code to Qt6<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4606\" data-end=\"4632\">It\u2019s worth keeping in mind that:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4633\" data-end=\"4754\">\n<li data-section-id=\"tl3usk\" data-start=\"4633\" data-end=\"4679\">it works best for simpler cases,<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"12sej58\" data-start=\"4680\" data-end=\"4754\">in more complex projects, manual code adjustments may be required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"border-left: 4px solid #4e5ff8; background-color: #f5f7ff; padding: 14px 18px; margin: 18px 0; border-radius: 6px;\">\n<div style=\"font-weight: bold; margin-bottom: 8px;\">Resources for plugin developers<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/plugins.qgis.org\/docs\/migrate-qgis4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Migration guide to QGIS 4<\/a><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/qgis\/QGIS\/wiki\/Plugin-migration-to-be-compatible-with-Qt5-and-Qt6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wiki: plugin migration from Qt5 to Qt6<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Found a bug? Report it <\/h2>\n<div style=\"border-left: 3px solid #4e5ff8; padding-left: 14px; margin: 18px 0;\">\n<p>QGIS 4.0 is still under development, so testing and reporting bugs is very important. Official reports are handled via<br \/>\n<a style=\"color: #4e5ff8; font-weight: 600; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/qgis\/QGIS\/issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> GitHub Issues<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Worth noting:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 6px;\">\n<li>reports should be submitted in English,<\/li>\n<li>a GitHub account is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you\u2019d like to discuss the issue in Polish first, visit<br \/>\n<a style=\"color: #4e5ff8; font-weight: 600; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/forum.qgis.pl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> the QGIS Poland community forum<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1pmrlxq\" data-start=\"5449\" data-end=\"5464\">Summary<\/h2>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 14px;\">QGIS 4.0 is an important step forward, primarily from a technological perspective. The changes are not revolutionary for end users, but they provide a solid foundation for further development \u2013 especially in terms of performance, stability, and scalability. At this stage, it\u2019s a version worth exploring and testing, but not yet necessarily using as a primary working tool.  <\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 18px;\">Thank you to everyone who joined the webinar and took part in the discussion around QGIS 4.0.
