{"id":3776,"date":"2023-10-23T15:33:38","date_gmt":"2023-10-23T13:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usemaps.net\/the-role-of-the-usemaps-administrator-in-the-system\/"},"modified":"2023-10-23T15:33:38","modified_gmt":"2023-10-23T13:33:38","slug":"the-role-of-the-usemaps-administrator-in-the-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usemaps.com\/en\/the-role-of-the-usemaps-administrator-in-the-system\/","title":{"rendered":"The Role of the Usemaps Administrator in the System"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In most companies that use GIS, there is a role known as a \u2018GIS specialist\u2019, i.e. a specialist\/technician\/engineer who is most knowledgeable about spatial data and to whom all tasks related to the following are assigned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>preparing maps\/reports with maps<\/li>\n<li>preparing lists (e.g. plots of land through which the investment passes)<\/li>\n<li>etc., etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Problem<\/h3>\n<p>All processes in a company, even the simplest ones, must somehow involve a \u2018GIS specialist\u2019 who produces hundreds of maps that fly around the company in the form of e-mails or presentations. From an organisational point of view, this has many disadvantages: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>it takes a lot of time: it prolongs the time needed to make a decision based on data<\/li>\n<li>Even a momentary absence of a GIS specialist causes the company to become \u2018blind\u2019 or to operate on old data.<\/li>\n<li>ambitious GIS specialists become frustrated with the repetitive nature of their work and leave<\/li>\n<li>Others \u2018cement\u2019 their position in the company and become \u201cirremovable\u201d because, ultimately, such a \u2018GIS specialist\u2019 becomes a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Single_point_of_failure\">single point of failure<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Solution<\/h3>\n<p>During analyses prior to our implementations, we suggest that the \u2018GIS specialist\u2019 become the \u2018Usemaps Administrator\u2019. What does this mean in practice? <\/p>\n<p>After implementing Usemaps, the main tasks of the Usemaps Administrator include ensuring the correct operation of the System (data currency, archiving work in accordance with procedures). Instead of performing repetitive and tedious tasks, they gain previously unavailable opportunities: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>granting access rights to the system<\/li>\n<li>uploading or creating data for other users<\/li>\n<li>preparing projects for users<\/li>\n<li>configuration of tools<\/li>\n<li>lastly, training users in the use of Usemaps.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&#8220;A GIS specialist can focus on solving difficult and hopeless problems \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h3>Where&#8217;s the benefit?<\/h3>\n<p>Thanks to this change, the company gains enormous time savings. Training in the use of Usemaps by the User takes about 2 hours (the user does not need to know anything about coordinate systems, data formats, data sources, etc.). In case of doubt, they can contact the Administrator.
